A New Chapter - Welcoming Hahndorf Hill

We’re excited to share some wonderful news that marks an inspiring new chapter for our family-owned winery.

Wirra Wirra has signed an agreement to acquire one of South Australia's most acclaimed small wineries: Hahndorf Hill in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. This milestone comes ten years after our acquisition of Ashton Hills and is a natural next step in our journey to champion wines of place, purpose, and authenticity.

At a time when the wine industry faces real challenges - moderation, rising costs, geopolitical uncertainty - it would be easy to stand still. But we believe this is precisely the time to back quality, character and long-term custodianship. Family ownership gives us the freedom to take the long view, and we are choosing to invest in a future built on distinction and deep roots.

Founded by Larry Jacobs and Marc Dobson in 2002, Hahndorf Hill has built a reputation for pure, characterful wines, pioneering varieties like Grüner Veltliner with extraordinary success. Their six-hectare estate, set just outside the historic village of Hahndorf, is home to a celebrated cellar door and thriving wine tourism experience.

Just this month, Hahndorf Hill’s 2023 Reserve Grüner Veltliner was awarded Best Wine from Australia at the Frankfurt International Wine Trophy - outshining more than 2,300 global entries and reinforcing Australia’s potential in cool-climate white wines on the world stage.

We are deeply honoured that Larry and Marc have entrusted us with the custodianship of what they have built. Their spirit of innovation, respect for site, and relentless pursuit of quality will inspire everything we do as we take Hahndorf Hill forward.

Together with Wirra Wirra and Ashton Hills, Hahndorf Hill will strengthen our presence in the Adelaide Hills, bringing new energy, depth and possibility. This is a story of flourishing - of family wineries choosing optimism, excellence, and long-term vision when it matters most.
